Nurses
In collaboration with other members of the radiation oncology team, Nurses provide care for patients undergoing treatment. Each nurse works closely with a particular physician to meet patient care needs. In addition to direct patient care and symptom management, Nurses educate patients and their families about managing care at home. Patients will meet their nurse at the first consultation, and will see her each week while undergoing treatment and at followups. All of the Radiation Oncology nurses have additional certification in oncology nursing. |

Dosimetrists
The Dosimetry staff consists of dosimetrists, CT techs, and MR techs. The CT and MR techs assist with creating custom immobili-zation devices for each patient. They scan patients on CT and MRI scanners that are used only for planning radiation oncology treatments. Dosimetrists work closely with radiation oncologists and medical physicists to generate radiation-dose distributions for both external-beam radiation treatment and brachytherapy. They generate dose distributions to a defined tumor volume while limiting the dose to critical normal tissues. Once a treatment plan is completed, dosimetrists perform calculations for accurate delivery of the Radiation Oncologist's prescribed dose. Dosimetrists closely monitor patients’ dose distributions throughout their course of treatment. |

Radiation Therapists
Under supervision of the physician, Radiation Therapists administer the daily radiation treatment that the Radiation Oncologist has prescribed. Radiation Therapists are skilled medical specialists educated in radiation therapy technology, radiation safety, patient anatomy, and patient care. Radiation Therapists administer targeted doses of radiation to the patient in order to treat cancer. Typically, patients are treated 5 days a week for up to 7 weeks. Throughout the course of treatment, Radiation Therapists maintain daily records of the treatment they give. They are responsible for proper operation of the treatment machines. Radiation Therapists work with the nurses and physicians, and closely monitor patients throughout treatment. |
