Faculty Selected for Leadership Development Programs

Congratulations to Manisha Palta, MD, who was selected to participate in the 2024 ALICE (Academic Leadership, Innovation and Collaborative Engagement) program. ALICE is a year-long leadership development opportunity for women faculty in the Duke University School of Medicine. This program provides in-depth opportunities for leadership skill development and goal setting, peer-mentoring and structured 360 feedback.

"I have previously participated in both the Duke LEADER and DCLP programs; the insights gained through these programs has helped strengthen my communication and leadership skills," said Dr. Palta. "This dedicated time to critically evaluate strengths and areas of improvement is essential to both personal and professional growth. I greatly appreciate the department’s investment in me by supporting my participation in the ALICE program."

Congratulations to Susan McDuff, MD, PhD, who was selected to participate in the 2024 LEADER (Leadership Development for Researchers) program. The program is designed for junior faculty who are leading a research group and driving their own research agenda. The course provides insight into leadership and team building as well as direction on how to develop and manage a scientific laboratory or research program.

"I am really looking forward to participating in the LEADER course at this phase in my career as this course is designed to help junior faculty develop improved leadership and mentorship skills," said Dr. McDuff. "The LEADER course offerings include workshops on effective leadership techniques, fostering inclusion, negotiation skills, conflict resolution and more. I am so grateful for the opportunity to participate."
