Raffi Invited as IAEA Consultant

In April, Julie Raffi, PhD, participated in a consultancy meeting at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), an intergovernmental organization based in Vienna, Austria that seeks to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy and to inhibit its use for any military purpose.

Dr. Raffi was one of five consultants invited to work on drafting guidelines for soft skills for international medical physics education and training.

As vice chair of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Global Clinical Education and Training Committee, Dr. Raffi received sponsorship from AAPM for this trip. "Our committee chair approached the IAEA with the idea for the joint guidance document at last year's annual meeting; the two of us held several virtual meetings with the IAEA over several months, which led to the consultancy meeting," said Dr. Raffi.

The meeting included additional international training experts representing other parts of the world. The group is now working to complete the draft guidance document.
