Resident Eugene Vaios, MD, MBA, was awarded an R38 Technician Support Award for his proposal titled, "An Ensemble Diagnostic and Surveillance Platform: Integrating Deep Learning Radiomics Techniques with Liquid Biopsies to Elucidate Tumor Biology and Response to Radiotherapy in Glioblastoma." Dr. Vaios' goal is to integrate cfDNA epigenetic signatures and radiomics features to discover non-invasive biomarkers for clinical outcomes in patients with primary brain tumors, specifically glioblastoma.
This is Dr. Vaios' second consecutive Technician Support Award from the Office of Physician-Scientist Development and the School of Medicine. The award is designed to support the research endeavors of early career physician-scientists by covering a portion of the salary of a laboratory technician or research assistant. With this award, Dr. Vaios will receive critical bioinformatics support from Courtney Wimberly, a technician in the Walsh Lab, to advance his work related to our department biobanking trial. Results from this effort will support future NIH and foundation grant applications.
