Duke Radiation Oncology has a longstanding tradition of training Military Radiation Oncologists, many of whom have become leaders in military medicine, and some of whom return to Duke as faculty. We are proud to have the opportunity to continue this tradition in a formalized program with the US Army.
Duke Radiation Oncology is an Affiliated Army GME program. Different from Army sponsored civilian programs, those in affiliated programs incur LESS Active Duty Obligation.
The Duke Military track will include 36-42 months of clinical rotations at Duke University Hospital and the Durham VA Medical Center along with 6-12 months of scholarly activities. Optional electives in non-university, academically affiliated hospitals will be available to enhance exposure to general radiation oncology practice for those who are interested.
All military candidates for the Duke Radiation Oncology Military Track must apply through the JGMESB using the MODS application platform, for information on the Army application process please contact the OTSG GME Office.
Those interested in learning more about this program are encouraged to contact the Duke Radiation Oncology Program Director Joseph Salama and the Radiation Oncology Program Coordinator Allie McArdle.
On site visits at Duke for potential trainees can be arranged, but are not required given demands of military service. Interested candidates will be evaluated by the US Army via standard processes
